On July 3, 2023, the Integrity Chamber provided the National Alliance with an integrity session as part of its public awareness campaign. The session was led by Integrity Chamber director, Charna Pompier, and policy advisor Amanda Browne, with the support of Member of the Integrity Chamber, Mr. Rafael Boasman.
The session provided information on the Integrity Chamber and its tasks, the importance of integrity for the party and the individual, tips on how integrity can be promoted and maintained within the party, and the benefits of integrity within the electoral process.
The party was invited to attend this integrity session in light of the upcoming elections. Candidates and board members were reminded of their responsibility as potential leaders who will be faced with decisions that affect the quality of the lives of the people of Sint Maarten. Attention was therefore placed on stimulating discussions on how decisions can be taken in a manner that safeguards the integrity of the individual, the government, and the country.
Regional and international integrity issues, as well as their consequences, and the manner in which they could have been avoided were discussed. Various scenarios were then presented where the participants were challenged to identify possible integrity risks, and to discuss the best approach to such a risk, and how these risks can be avoided and mitigated. The scenarios covered a range of topics, such as external offers from third parties, relationships that may constitute a conflict of interest, accountability during your tenure, and prioritizing the public interest over private interests.
The Integrity Chamber expressed its thanks to the National Alliance for accepting the invitation and making the effort to foster integrity within its party and looks forward to continually supporting the community with similar endeavours.
